Sleep apnea can rob someone of not only a good night’s sleep, but also his or her life. That is why it is so important that a person suffering from this condition see a doctor so that it can be safely and properly addressed. McKinney ENT Clinic treats this disorder so that patients can get the restful sleep they need.
What is Sleep Apnea?
Sleep apnea and snoring are disorders that usually result in some annoyed jabs from bed partners, as well as a steady stream of complaints. However, while snoring is more of a nuisance, sleep apnea can be deadly. If you have obstructive sleep apnea, that means you are not breathing as you should during the night because of some kind of blockage affecting your throat and/or nose. This not only disrupts your sleep, it can substantially decrease the amount of oxygen in your blood.
People with sleep apnea typically snore, gasp or snort during the night. In many instances, you may wake up with a headache the next morning and feel tired during the day. You may be irritable, and you may even have problems concentrating. Even worse, you will be at risk of suffering a stroke or developing another dangerous problem such as diabetes, high blood pressure or coronary artery disease.
