Sinusitis can easily be confused with an allergy or a cold, so people experiencing this problem need to be treated by an experienced medical professional. McKinney ENT Clinic has a team of experts that have the knowledge needed in order to provide a correct diagnosis so that the right treatment plan can be devised.
Symptoms of Sinusitis
When you have sinusitis, your nose will be congested and you will probably also find it hard to breathe. Mucus will irritate the back portion of your throat and your head, face – and possibly even your teeth – will ache because of the pressure being put on them. In many instances, people become irritable and tired and lose their senses of not only smell but also taste.
Sinusitis occurs when your mucus membranes become inflamed, either due to some sort of allergy or a cold. If you experience any of the following, there is a chance you may have the condition:
- Thick greenish or yellowish mucus discharge
- Congestion or a nasal obstruction
- Swelling and tenderness around the eyes, nose, forehead and cheeks
Treatment for Sinusitis
If you have been diagnosed with sinusitis, your doctor will recommend the course of treatment that will be right for you. This could include the use of decongestants, antibiotics, nasal or oral steroids, drugs to thin mucus or other types of medication. However, surgery may be an option if you do not respond well to your prescribed medicine.
